Senator Armstrong
Profile
Since 1985, Senator Gib Armstrong has worked hard for the
constituents of the 13th Senatorial District, which includes portions of
Lancaster and York Counties.
Closely reflecting the views and traditions of the area he serves,
Armstrong is well regarded for his fiscal and social conservatism. As
Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Senator is
committed to controlling state spending, assuring a responsibly balanced
state budget, and finding ways to get better value for taxpayer
dollars.
The Senator is noted for his extensive work to secure transportation
improvements, community development projects, and job creation. His
push for Act 23 gave Pennsylvania an important economic development tool
that has spurred significant commercial projects in his district and
across the Commonwealth.
Indicative of his commitment to community values, Armstrong is a
stalwart, outspoken opponent of expanding legalized gambling.
The Senator serves as a member of the Banking & Insurance, Finance,
Labor & Industry, Rules and Executive Nominations, and Urban Affairs &
Housing Committees.
Because of his financial expertise, Armstrong is a long-time member
of the Pennsylvania State Employees Retirement Board.
He strongly supports and advocates key community institutions, such
as Franklin and Marshall College, Millersville University, Thaddeus
Stevens College of Technology, and Lancaster Bible College.
He is involved in numerous boards and organizations in the 13th
District, including Lancaster General Hospital, the Career and
Technology Center Foundation, the Willow Street Lions Club, Lancaster
Bible College, and the Marine Corps League.
Prior to his election to the State Senate, Armstrong served in the
State House of Representatives for eight years. Before seeking elected
office, he worked as an investment advisor. A Vietnam veteran, he
served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps.
The Senator met his wife Marti while attending Westminster College,
where he earned a degree in economics. They have four children: Gibson
C., Erik, Kris, and Erin, and seven grandchildren.
