Senator Armstrong Helps Lampeter Fire Company #1 Purchase Firefighter Safety Equipment

State Senator Gibson E. Armstrong (Refton) presented a check to the Lampeter Fire Company #1 in the amount of $25,000 to be used to purchase special fire fighting safety equipment.  Senator Armstrong is a strong supporter of funding for volunteer fire companies.

The grant money was used to purchase a system that sounds an alarm when a firefighter goes down in a fire.  The firefighters wear a motion detector on their jackets and if the motion detector is still for a certain period of time, an alarm sounds alerting fellow firefighters that a firefighter is down.  "This is a tremendous safety feature.  We are very fortunate to have this," said Sean Alexander, Lampeter Fire Company #1 Chief.

"Volunteer firefighters work very hard, not just in training and fire and safety expeditions, but in fundraising too.  This grant is a small way to express our gratitude and to help these dedicated folks in their important mission of protecting us," said Senator Armstrong.  "I'm glad the money could be used on something that aids in protecting the volunteers," he added.

Carl Adam, President of the Lampeter Fire Company #1, said "with rising costs in insurance, building maintenance and administration, it is getting harder to keep up financially.  We are thankful to the Senator for his assistance in helping us get this grant."
